RESPIRATORY CARE
Our FMC Respiratory Care Practitioners are an essential part of the healthcare team that help treat patients with breathing disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and pneumonia. Respiratory Care Practitioners also provide care during life-threatening emergencies in adult, pediatric and newborn patients.

CARDIAC TESTING
The FMC Cardiopulmonary Department provides progressive tests to monitor the health of your heart. These tests include Electrocardiogram (EKG), Impendance Cardiography (ICG), regular and Cardiolite stress testing.

PULMONARY FUNCTION TESTING (PFT)
Pulmonary Function Testing or PFTs are used to diagnose the cause and severity of breathing disorders. PFTs help physicians evaluate conditions such as shortness of breath, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema and asthma.

NUTRITIONAL SERVICES
At Fairchild Medical Center, we understand the importance of well balanced nutritious meals for patient’s overall health and recovery. Our nutrition team carefully prepares every meal using fresh, high quality ingredients. Each year, they prepare and serve more than 85,000 meals for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers.

Our dietitians are experts in food and nutrition and work closely with the doctors, nurses and other healthcare members. They provide medical nutrition therapy for individuals and groups and strive to teach people how to achieve a well balanced diet to maximize the health benefits of food. Additionally, they customize meal plans for hospitalized patients based on their medical condition.

Nutritional Services also offers outpatient medical nutrition therapy. This involves one-on-one education to patients and/or family members to teach about nutrition or develop diets to promote health. A referral from your Health Care Provider is all you need.

DIETARY SERVICES

DIABETIC SERVICES
Fairchild Medical Center offers an array of services for patients with diabetes and their family members. With a referral from a Physician, patients will receive one-on-one education by a Certified Diabetes Educator or Dietitian. Patients learn how to manage their diabetes through nutrition, exercise, medication, blood sugar monitoring, and emotional adjustment to diabetes.

If you believe you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, immediately call 911. For all health issues needing immediate attention, our doors are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When seconds count, you need a team of highly trained doctors and nurses working together fast and efficiently. In all situations, from heart attacks, major trauma, broken bones or difficulty breathing, Fairchild Medical Center’s Emergency Department team is ready to provide quality care with compassion and skill.

The department is staffed 24 hours a day by physicians specializing in Emergency Medicine and additionally, a Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner 10 to 12 hours per day, 7 days a week. Our ER nurses have special training in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), trauma nurse core course (TNCC), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). Nurse practitioners (FNPs) and physician assistants (Pas) – Our FNPs and Pas have special training in emergency care. They see people of all ages and their families in our emergency department.

Seeing approximately 1100 patients per month, the Emergency Department is equipped with state-of-the-art emergency medical equipment and can offer an array of diagnostic and support services. Fairchild Medical Center has meet the state criteria for evaluation and treatment of trauma and has an emergency landing site for quick helicopter transport to a higher level of care facility.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

The four-bed Intensive Care Unit at Fairchild Medical Center provides monitoring and critical care for a variety of serious conditions. Our nurses are trained and experienced in critical care, and commonly treat patients with cardiac problems, stroke, sepsis, shock, post-surgical and respiratory conditions. The ICU has state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to provide this quality care. The unit also has telemetry services which enable us to monitor cardiac functions for additional patients in the Medical/Surgical unit.

LABOR & DELIVERY

Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Fairchild Medical Center’s laboratory is fully accredited by the state of California and by The Joint Commission.

Fairchild Medical Center’s Clinical Laboratory provides a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests and utilizes state-of-the-art instrumentation and computerization.

We employ highly skilled and experienced, board certified pathologists, licensed medical technologists, and licensed phlebotomists. We strive to provide stress-free, efficient, friendly and personalized service.We offer outstanding service to out-patients, with an average wait of less then 10 minutes for blood draws. Results are usually sent to the ordering physician’s office via courier, fax or by local computer terminal results inquiry. Highly unusual tests are sent to a reference laboratory by same-day courier. We also provide daily courier service for specimens drawn by the physician’s office staff. Laboratory services are available 24-hours a day. Out-patient services are available Monday through Friday from 7:00 am through 6:00 pm.

Fairchild Medical Center has a 17 bed Medical-Surgical unit featuring private and semi-private rooms. Professional care with a personal touch is provided by Nurses experienced in caring for medical, surgical and orthopedic patients of all ages.

During your stay, you may be attended by one of our in-house Hospitalists providing around-the-clock care. Our Hospitalist works in conjunction with your physician or surgeon, to provide you with exceptional, compassionate care.

MEDICAL/SURGICAL IN-PATIENT CARE

At Fairchild Medical Center outpatient surgery we realize that while we perform surgeries every day, that coming to the hospital for a surgical procedure can be quite overwhelming. You can be assured our team will work hard to ease your fears and anxiety, and make your experience with us as comfortable as possible. We perform a wide range of minimally invasive surgeries and procedures thru outpatient surgery, at times referred to as same-day surgeries.

Same-day surgeries or procedures may include:

Endoscopic ( colonoscopy and EGD )
Arthroscopic ( knee or shoulder )
Orthopedic ( carpal tunnel release )
Medication administration

Your physician will schedule a surgical time, and if needed, a pre-operative visit before your surgery. The pre-operative visit is scheduled at least 24-hours before surgery, and any test ordered by your physician will be completed during this time. A registered nurse will instruct you on pre-surgery procedures and also your activities after surgery. Please ask questions anytime during your surgical stay.

OUTPATIENT SURGERY

Inpatient pharmacy services are provided daily from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Our pharmacists provide pharmaceutical care and oversight of pharmacologic issues in the support of our medical staff and other healthcare providers.

A remote pharmacy dial-up service is utilized to provide continuity of care after 5 pm. Chemotherapy and outpatient prescription filling services are not currently provided.

PHARMACY

At the Fairchild Medical Center surgery department we strive to provide you with the highest quality of care while providing you with the comfort and pain management you deserve. Our surgical patients are carefully monitored and cared for during the entire surgical process, from preoperative teaching through recovery. Our team of surgeons, anesthesia providers, registered nurse first assists (RNFA), Operating Room Nurses, and Surgical Techs are dedicated to the highest standards of surgical care. Our nursing staff is trained in Advance Cardiac Life Support and all of our surgical staff follows strict AORN standards. If you are under the age of eighteen years, a parent or legal guardian must sign for you. Should you require surgery or need a special diagnostic procedure, you will be asked to sign a separate consent form or forms.

We urge you to keep all money, valuables, and items of sentimental value at home or to leave them with your family. If you wish temporary storage of valuables, your nurse can place items in the hospital safe. Fairchild Medical Center cannot accept responsibility for valuables left in your room.

Patients requesting financial assistance may contact the hospital business office at (530)842-4121 and ask to speak with a Financial Counselor. The integrity of clinical decision making is not affected by compensation arrangements. This means the decision to receive treatment or to remain in the hospital is based on medical necessity, not on payment arrangements.

Discharge planning is a part of your care. As a patient at Fairchild Medical Center, you arrange to leave the hospital when your physician determines that it is medically appropriate for you to go home or to another care setting.
